Our departing Curator of Art and Exhibitions, Dr Amanda Draper, selects some of her favourite paintings from the University’s collection. They are artworks that she always meant to put on display during her seven years here but never got around to for one reason or another. Some are by well-known artists and others by lesser-known names that Amanda believes deserve more recognition, but each has a story to tell.
Artists in the exhibition include Joseph Wright of Derby, Anne Nasmyth, David Young Cameron, Adrian Stokes, Mary Adshead, Euan Uglow, Victor Pasmore, and Liverpool artists Parker Greenwood, Jack Coburn Witherop, Richard Young, Sam Walsh and Adrian Henri.
Amanda said:
“I am pleased to have the opportunity to show this wide range of paintings to the public. It has been a privilege to have been their custodian for a while. A curator’s role is to improve the condition of objects in their care and increase knowledge about them, as well as making them publicly accessible especially through exhibitions. After a curator leaves, all that remains of them should be the legacy of these improvements and exhibitions. I like to think that will be the case with me.
