Rising Darkness workshop

18 July | 12 August | 6 September 2025 | 1pm-3pm | Drop-in

Artist Brigitte Jurack presents her exhibition Rising Darkness

Artist Brigitte Jurack

As part of the Rising Darkness exhibition by Brigitte Jurack, there are opportunities to join the artist in making a shared mosaic.

Historical evidence suggests that major mosaic schemes were undertaken by teams of people who shared the time-consuming task of slowly laying out the design on the floors of domestic houses, temples or assembly halls.

This new mosaic is inspired by an unswept floor found in a Roman villa in Aquileia but is politicised to include modern debris and specially trained landmine-sniffing rats.

Workshop dates:

  • Friday 18 July, 1pm – 3pm, learning suite on ground floor (for group bookings only)*
  • Tuesday 12 August, 1pm – 3pm, learning suite on ground floor
  • Saturday 6 September, 1pm – 3pm, café near fireplace

Drop-in workshops are free to join and suitable for anybody over the age of eight. Children must be supervised at all times.

*For booking groups of seven or more people, please contact vgm@liverpool.ac.uk and ask to attend the workshop on Friday 18 July.
