Explore LGBTQ+ histories in this gallery talk, 'Queer histories: Lightbulb moments', with Lightbulb moments curator Steve Slack.
When Victorian universities, museums, galleries and libraries were founded, LGBTQIA+ identities were hidden away and queer narratives were rarely discussed in public. Fast forward a century, and we find that historic collections are, in fact, packed with items that represent queer lives.
This tour highlights some of the ‘lightbulb moments’ from the exhibition which shed light on the rich queer heritage of Liverpool and beyond. The talk briefly examines the rise of queer museology in recent decades and invites us to consider what should happen next to reinterpret collections and narratives to highlight LGBTQ+ histories.
