National Apprenticeship week

This week is National Apprenticeship week!

At the VG&M we employ two brilliant interns: Sean on the Visitor Services Team and Jade on the Curatorial Team.

Here is Jade's article that describes her role here at the VG&M:

I’ve been here now for 6 months and I learn so many new things every day. I’m currently learning about the best packing techniques for objects, how to document, do inventories and about the process needed, starting with the hand list to finally putting them onto a database. I love every part of my job but my favourite part so far has been getting up close with objects and learning the history behind them. I’ve had some smaller and some bigger projects here. I’ve been doing a hand list of the coin cabinet, this will turn into a full inventory and hopefully one day go on the database. It’s been amazing to see all the little details in them and I’m going to London to a numismatics conference to extend my knowledge further! This apprenticeship will give me the experience and qualification to study further and pursue my dream of a job in a museum later in life. I feel my apprenticeship has given me a strong start to my career.

Earlier this week, as part of #NationalApprenticeshipWeek Sean wrote and gave a very well received guided tour of the Victoria Gallery & Museum using an Ipad.
