Chinese New Year celebrations

The Victoria Gallery & Museum (VG&M) and the Liverpool Confucius Institute are marking Chinese New Year with a number of events to celebrate the Year of the Monkey.

The Confucius Institute will be celebrating at the Playhouse Theatre with a professional Chinese troupe and local schools performing kung fu, dance and acrobatics. The performance will embrace the colour traditions and atmosphere of the Spring Festival.

The Victoria Gallery & Museum (VG&M) has organised a special Family Saturday with a craft workshop celebrating Chinese New Year traditions.

Artist Pui Lee will show families how to make traditional opera masks whilst the Confucius Institute will demonstrate Chinese calligraphy and paper cutting.

There will also be a special screening of the Disney film ‘Mulan II’ in the Leggate Theatre.

Chinese New Year Performance at the Playhouse Theatre takes place on Wednesday, 10 February 2016, between 2 and 4pm.

The Victoria Gallery & Museum will show Mulan II at 10.30am in the Leggate Theatre on Saturday, 13 February.  This will be followed by the Chinese New Year Family Workshop which takes place in the afternoon, visitors can drop-in anytime between 1 and 4pm.
