Meet the VG&M team
The Service Team
We are the first people you see when you enter the Victoria Gallery & Museum and we make sure everyone receives a warm welcome and an enjoyable visitor experience. We also look after the art and heritage collections everyday. We love Twitter and Facebook and love telling people about what’s on in Liverpool and the VG&M. We have a great team of volunteers too, who provide regular guided tours of the Victoria building. We also run the lovely and ever evolving museum shop.
From Turners to Teeth! I’m responsible for lifelong learning and interpretation and I enjoy the variety that comes from working with both heritage and art collections. I’m constantly learning about different collections and liaising with lots of creative people to develop ideas for our enthralling exhibitions. Whether you do a workshop, guided tour, trail, dress up, draw, read or simply wander through our atmospheric Liverpool building and fascinating displays, I make it my job to make sure all visitors have enjoyable, memorable experiences that build upon knowledge, but above all are fun!
I’m responsible for the care and management of the University fine and decorative art collections, from outdoor sculpture to 18th century porcelain. I research acquisitions, update our specialist database, organise conservation of objects, and deal with dispersed art displayed on campus. I also manage loans out to other galleries and museums and work on the VG&M's temporary exhibitions and collections displays. We have a great team of volunteers and I manage a curatorial intern every year. As we’re a small team I help out wherever I’m needed, from working on gallery interactives with Kirsty to helping Leonie with the wet specimens (not my favourite job!).
My primary role is to support the Director, managing the Visitors Services Team and ensuring the smooth running of the Art & Heritage Collections office. I undertake the general and financial administration for the department, keep the website updated and oversee the running of the VG&M gift shop. As the Sustainability Advocate I’m keen to make our department as green as possible, a challenging task in a building built 120 years ago.
I’m responsible for the care and management of the University Heritage Collections, including the Dental Museum collection, the Zoology Museum collection, Physics, Anaesthesia, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Civic Design, Engineering and any other ‘orphan’ collections. I also curate the museum exhibits at the VG&M, and in other departments when requested. I can often be found in the underground store, busying myself with the preparation of objects for new displays, exhibitions or other Liverpool events we host with the help of my trusty band of irreplaceable volunteers.
I’m the chief technician in the Art and Heritage Collections department and responsible for the installation of permanent and temporary exhibitions across collections. This includes organising, scheduling and supervising handling teams in the Victoria Gallery & Museum & other Liverpool University departments when moving/ installing departmental collections. I also take care of collections registration, store organization, inventory checks, conservation of displays in the gallery and occasionally the movement of collections externally. I’m the Health and Safety Co-ordinator for the building, too.
The VG&M gets tremendous support from a large number of volunteers. If you are interested in finding out more about volunteering opportunities visit our Support us section.
